SENIORS RETURN TO THE NEW SECRET VALLEY

SENIORS RETURN TO THE NEW SECRET VALLEY

A bright sunny morning on Saturday, 26 September, saw 108 players from 16 countries tee off at Secret Valley Golf Club (SVGC), competing in the 2015 Cyprus Senior Opens for Men and Ladies. This was the first Open staged by CGF since the course was redesigned. The course was beautifully presented, and received compliments from many players for being a good test of golf on true greens.

Leaders on Day 1 were Rachid Akl (Lebanon) with a level par score of 71, whilst Eva Lindo (Norway) leading the ladies field with a score of 80.

Rachid Akl consolidated his lead on day 2 with a great 3 under par score of 68 to become the Senior Men’s Champion. Rashid, a very popular winner, has played in many Opens staged by CGF in Cyprus, and won the Cyprus Men’s Open in 2007 at Secret Valley before its redesign.

In the Ladies competition, Marilei Baxter (Great Britain), stormed through the field with a second day score of 77 to become the Senior Ladies Champion.

The Super Seniors section prizes (for 65 and over) were won by Chris Christophorou (Cyprus), and Gwen Jones (Great Britain).

Sadly, nobody managed to win the €10,000 prize for a hole in one sponsored by CGF.

At the well-attended Presentation Buffet after the close of play, prizes were presented by Demetris Papapetrou, President of CGF, Maro Kazepi, Golf Coordinator of Cyprus Tourist Organisation, and Paris Christodoulides of AGF Trading and Engineering Ltd.
