PAPHOS GOLFERS ASSOCIATION
P O Box 60757.
8107, Paphos, Cyprus
Paphos Golfers Association was formed in 2006 to provide reasonable priced golf for people who could not justify the expense of joining one of the four golf clubs in the Paphos region. We take the golf seriously but very much with fun in mind, catering for both Ladies and Men.
The Association holds 2 PGA handicap qualifying competitions a month, plus several other opportunities a month to put in a qualifying card, should the need arise. The Medal competition is held on the first Sunday of the month and is normally held at one of the four Golf Clubs in the Paphos area, but the majority is held at our home club Elea G.C. We also hold a Mid- Month Medal, held on the third Sunday of the month, all played at Elea G.C. At this competition you have the opportunity to choose which tee you wish to play off, White/Yellow for the men, Red/Blue for the ladies, and also if you wish a early or late tee time. In addition to the two monthly medals, a majority of our members are also off-peak members at Elea G.C. and arrange games on a Tuesday, Friday afternoons, and either early or late on a Sunday (if no PGA official competition}, these games are normally fun team games for both Ladies and Men, we have a good core membership of ladies, but they are outnumbered by the men so we like to encourage more ladies to join the association, to that end there is a ladies trophy awarded at each of our Monthly Medal competitions.
The Association also has a very good social side, Captains day and the Chairman’s day which usually consists of a Matchplay competition followed by a evening of eating and dancing, normally held at one of the Hotels in the area, also in addition to these, such events of Go karting, Ten pin bowling, crazy golf and quiz nights or any other events our Social Secretary can dream up, members choose if they wish to take part, and is open to spouses or partners.
The Association became members of the Cyprus Golf Federation in 2008 and all Association’s members will be given an EGA handicap. Members may retain their CONGU handicaps for their UK Clubs, if they wish.
All members must play in at least four Medal Competitions a year, to retain their membership, this can be done at any of the four clubs were we hold these competitions, or at the Mid- Month Medals held at Elea G.C. Also if you play in one of the games played on a Tuesday, Friday or Sunday, you may ask the organiser to pass on your card to the Handicap Secretary, once you have joined you will receive a membership card, which may give you a reduction on green fees at the four clubs, and an Association Polo Shirt.
At the moment we have vacancies for anyone with a handicap of 36 or less or if you do not hold a valid handicap, you will need to perform three qualifying rounds and achieve a standard of 36 or less, before you can become a member. The PGA financial year currently runs from 1st September to 31st August, there is a one- off joining fee of 50 euro with an annual subscription of 60 euro, which is applied on a sliding scale dependent on the time of year you apply to join.
The association has a committee of Chairman Alan Betchley, Secretary Kelvyn Bailey, Handicap Secretary Paul Majoor, Treasurer Peter BeeBee, Social Secretary Mike Andrews, Captain Anne Majoor and Vice-Captain Costas Xenofontos, who meet on a quarterly basis with all meetings being formally minuted. The Association has a constitution and bye laws which are revised on a regular basis to reflect any changes in circumstances
